Although many sexual violence behaviours are crimes in the criminal code, some are also violations of other legislation, policies or codes of conduct. Depending on the nature of your experience, other reporting options may be available to you in addition to police reporting.
Other reporting options may include:
- A workplace human resources team
- School administration
- Volunteer Organization Board of Directors
- Human Rights Commission of PEI
- If you have reasonable grounds to believe that you have experienced discrimination on the basis of any protections provided for in the PEI Human Rights Act, you may file a complaint with the Commission. You are recommended to call or email them in advance of filing a complaint to discuss your situation to ensure it is one that can be dealt with by the Commission. Sexual Harassment is something that may be covered by the Human Rights Commission.
